Reed diffusers work by the fabric sticks soaking the oils and releasing them into the air. It is important to flip the reeds to ensure that the fragrance is dispersed evenly throughout the room. Flipping the reeds helps to re-saturate them, allowing them to draw more of the fragrant oil from the glass bottle and release it into the air. Flipping them regularly prevents the reeds from becoming clogged up by dust.
